Donner Lake Kayak in May 2007

The temp was a perfect 70 degrees with a slight breeze. We put in at the CDOT launch on Donner Lake. The attendant was super friendly. It is 2 bucks to park or you can park on the road for free. We test-drove the new kayaks for a couple of hours. Saw mergansers and geese with 6 goslings. There was a lot of activity on the lake for the weekend before Memorial Day. Kids were swimming, jet skis and motor boats were cruising, and there was a sailboat ripping around.

Lifts were on windhold at Homewood on Sunday for the first time in many years. I80 was closed on Sun and on Monday at 6pm. It took us 7 hours to get home on Monday-we will return on Friday! 8 feet total fell.

Snow is getting really fast

With no snow for weeks, Tahoe is getting thin. I felt like I was at risk with out of control people sliding all around. My advice is not to go until the next snow! This is the base area of Homewood early in January 2007.

We also met a lift mgr named Bill. He saw Hugh's XGames jacket and said "Hey, do you know Tom MAhoney?". Well, turns out his condo in Squaw VAlley is where Tom squats. It's a small world...

We went up this weekend and skiied Sugarbowl from 2:30-4, a special deal for 15$. We got an extra bonus because they kept the lifts running until 4:45pm!
The snow was melted and refrozen. The sun was out and it was like Spring skiing.
On Sunday as part of our "Skiing Safari" we skiied Soda Springs. Yes, the "winter resort" with 2 lifts.
All day ticket was 25$. They have 2 large tubing parks and a kiddy area with fun things to do. This is an ideal area to teach kids (or adults) how to ski. It was very casual.
We found a steep face and some not-so-crunchy snow.
